CONSTANTINOPLE, Turkey | The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, visited the Ecumenical Patriarchate on Thursday, September 11, 2025, where he was received with high honors by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Milatovic, accompanied by aides, was welcomed at the Patriarchate gates by Grand Protosyncellus Grigorios and clergy of the Patriarchal Court before meeting with the Patriarch. Bartholomew warmly greeted the Montenegrin head of state, expressing joy at his presence and asking him to convey his blessings to the people of Montenegro.
Talks focused on issues of mutual interest, with senior hierarchs including Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon and Metropolitan Maximos of Selymbria present. Later, Milatovic venerated at the Patriarchal Church of St. George, guided by Archimandrite Iakovos.
The visit followed a reception in Istanbul on Wednesday evening, where Patriarch Bartholomew joined celebrations for Montenegro’s national day. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was also among the distinguished guests.
