Corinth bids farewell to metropolitan Dionysios in moving funeral service

In a moving ceremony on Saturday morning, the funeral service for Metropolitan Dionysios of Corinth was held at the Holy Cathedral Church of Apostle Paul in Corinth.

GREECE | Corinth The service was presided over by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, with the participation of a large number of hierarchs.

The Archsecretary of the Holy Synod, Archimandrite Ioannis Karamouzis, delivered the funeral oration. He emphasized that the late Metropolitan “preached the Crucified and Risen Christ throughout his life… He struggled to form Christ in the hearts of the people.”

“With you, we learned what it means to strive to become a Saint of God,” Father Ioannis noted at another point in his speech. He recalled the last words of the late Metropolitan Dionysios at the feast of Saint John the Russian in Neo Prokopi last May: “There, we heard you say that a person can truly mean it when they say ‘Be blessed’.” He concluded by wishing: “May you rest in heaven, Father Dionysios.”

Metropolitan Gavriil of Leontopolis, the Elder, conveyed the condolences of Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria.

On behalf of the clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Corinth, Protosyncellus Bishop Agapios of Kenchrea delivered a funeral oration.

Following the funeral service, a funeral procession with the Corinthian Municipal Philharmonic playing and a military detachment from the Loutraki Engineering School proceeded to the Cemetery of the Life-Giving Spring in Corinth, where the burial took place.

The service was attended by local political, administrative, and military authorities, as well as a large crowd of faithful who came to bid farewell to their blessed metropolitan. He passed away on the evening of Thursday, August 7, at the age of 73, after a prolonged illness.
