Archbishop Makarios hosts Australian Ambassador to Greece

In Sydney, Archbishop Makarios and Ambassador Duncan reaffirm deep-rooted ties between Greece and Australia, highlighting shared values and the role of the Greek diaspora.

Australia, Sydney – On Wednesday, July 23, Archbishop Makarios of Australia warmly welcomed the Australian Ambassador to Greece, Ms Alison Duncan, at the Archiepiscopal Residence in Sydney.

The Archbishop hosted a dinner in honor of Ambassador Duncan, attended by Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, the Chief Secretary of the Archdiocese Archimandrite Christoforos Krikelis (of the Ecumenical Throne), Archdeacon Athinagoras, and Dr. Philippos Kariatis, Acting Dean of St Andrew’s Theological College, accompanied by his wife.

In a cordial and friendly atmosphere, discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, particularly the long-standing ties of friendship between Greece and Australia and the significant contribution of the Greek diaspora to Australian society.

Both Archbishop Makarios and Ambassador Duncan affirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expressed their willingness to work closely in that direction.

The Archbishop concluded by thanking Ambassador Duncan for her visit and wished her continued success in her diplomatic mission in Greece.
